Nestled in the Adelaide foothills, this contemporary home has been designed to complement its natural surroundings. Working with a valuable, existing footprint on a sloping site, this dated 1950’s home was transformed by lifting rooflines, bringing light and ventilation to new living spaces and maximizing the site’s sweeping views.
The main roof was removed and re-engineered with increased spans, and wall and ceiling heights were increased to create larger openings for new external cedar joinery to be fitted.
Careful consideration was given to the home’s energy efficiency, consistent with today’s building standards, introducing wide eave overhangs, low ‘e’ glazing, louver windows and improved insulation. Internally, polished concreted floors and limestone walls provided further character and thermal mass.
Hand selected natural materials were used to complete the stunning interior fit-out including Western Australian limestone, travertine tiling and recycled Jarrah flooring to add an earthy charm to this modern masterpiece.
